I’m very sad to learn of Barbara’s passing. We were classmates and graduated from Ocean City High School in 1959. Our friendship started in kindergarten at the Central Avenue Elementary School on 9th Street and continued through graduation. I remember especially her inviting me to her birthday party circa 1944-45 when we were only about four or five years old. It had a lasting memory for me because it was the first birthday party I ever attended. Barbara was always friendly and sincere. It just happened that I thought she was one of the most attractive girls in our class. As an aside, Barbara’s father George worked in the Ocean City Post office as did I during the summer months of my college days. We sometimes went to the Atlantic City Racetrack together. It happened that one day a horse by the name of George’s Girl was running. Obviously, George was compelled to bet on the semblance of his namesake. Unfortunately, George’s Girl finished second that day. The saving grace was that George had bet on George’s Girl across-the-board so he nonetheless ended up a winner. I reside in New York City now but whenever I visit Ocean City I am reminded of Barbara when I pass her old residence in the 600 block of Asbury Avenue. Because I held Barbara in such high esteem I had the confidence to secure her brother Steve (Berkshire Hathaway) to handle my family’s real estate transactions in Ocean City. I still retain a picture of the Central Avenue School safety patrol (circa 1950) of which Barbara and I were members. If a relative would like a copy you may email me at jlee22@msn.com.
