n a lot of ways, we were reflections of each other and bonded as misunderstood misfits ~ glorious sometimes pasta-eating misfits ~ but misfits that we, ourselves, didn't yet understand.
We circled and collided in a world of teen angst and high emotions in the atmosphere of our parents' seemingly normal lives. (Who knew that they had their own things to do and their own problems to tackle?)
Your mom was one of those people who served as an anchor, who let us be who we were. Who let us run wild on the outskirts of reality because where else do you run when you're a restless youth? Who listened to us ~ because she was actually interested ~ when no one else cared to listen. Who trusted that we were good people who would go into the world and be all right.
I look back at that time as being some of the most difficult years of my life and I remember a lot of people who didn't put in the time, who did me wrong, who disregarded my raw emotions. Your mom was not one of those people. She stood out as a truly caring soul. I can only imagine the love and respect you feel for her as her son.
I believe that we are beautiful energy that merely changes form and that those who love us are with us everyday. They're in our hearts, our minds, the air we breathe, the stardust that makes us the people that we become. Your mom will always be with you, Dave. ♥
