Obituary for Victoria English (Llavada)

Victoria English (Llavada)
English, Victoria (Llavda), 89, of Pleasantville passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 surrounded by her nieces. She was born on November 15, 1926. Victoria was the surviving member of the four Llavda sisters and was predeceased by her sisters and spouses: Margaret Schlum, Mary (Walt) Hubiak, and Helen (Tom) Kinsell. She was Albanian Orthodox like her parents, George and Christine Llavda, who also predeceased her. Victoria grew up in the Atlantic City Inlet and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1944. She was an active member of the WHIMs, a club for young women just beginning their lives and careers. She began her secretarial career at Chalfont-Haddon Hall where she recorded the stories of returning World War II soldiers. She then worked for the Atlantic City Transportation Co. at the car-barn, when trolleys ran through the city and continued on with the company when it converted to buses, and eventually became executive secretary to the president. She retired after 40 plus years of service.

Victoria married George English in 1951 and they lived in the house his grandfather built on Leeds Avenue. Victoria loved that house and lived there until her passing. The couple enjoyed 60 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling, boating on the "English Queen," and spending time with family, especially at Christmas, when their home became a wonderland of gifts and laughter. Together they traveled to every state in the U.S. and many countries. In her younger days, Victoria loved the beach and always sported a lovely tan. She was a member of the Pleasantville Ladies' Fire Auxiliary and hosted the yearly Republican Election Day gathering at her home. Victoria was a history-buff and chronicled both the Llavda and English families. She was an avid storyteller and her tales will live on through her family.

She is survived by her loving nieces Victoria (Bill) Hangstorfer and Janet Kinsell, Kathleen (Ed) Zimmerman, Linda Schlum-Case, Patricia Hubiak, and Doris (Harry) Michel. In addition, she will be missed by great nieces/nephews: Christina Page, Amy (Tim) Hughes, Kristen (Phill) Hangstorfer-Curiale, William (Kelsey) Hangstorfer, Donene (Norman) Bird, Donette Leary, Donny (Shannon) Di Pietro, Harry and Glen Michel, Kaitlyn (Dan) McNerny, Travis English and their children and by her devoted caregiver, Shirley Tullos.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Rd, in Northfield. A service will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor.

Donations in Victoria's memory may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice 6550 Delilah Rd # 501, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234.
