Obituary for Robert James Marx

Robert James Marx
MARX, ROBERT J., “BOB”, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Somers Point on
January 21, 2023. He was born in Somers Point, NJ and grew up on Fredericksburg Avenue in
Ventnor, NJ. He graduated from Atlantic City High School and attended Peirce School of
Business in Philadelphia. He lived in Somers Point for the past 71 years. Bob proudly served in
the United States Navy and Reserves, worked for the Atlantic City Electric Company for 35
years and served as a New Jersey State Marine Police Officer in Atlantic City. After retiring,
Bob assisted and supported his wife with the day-to-day operations for T.C. Marx Custom
Draperies in Marmora, NJ.
For many years in the 1960s, Bob was a coach for the Somers Point Little League. He loved
everything about the game of football and his Philadelphia Eagles – Fly Eagles Fly!
Bob inherited his father's wood building skills and enjoyed playing golf, sitting on the beach with his
feet in the water, boating, fishing, traveling and everything in between that involved spending
time with his family. He instilled the sense of adventure, traveling, and the love of the great
outdoors in each and every one of his children at an early age. His love for fresh bread and other
baked goods, especially snicker doodle cookies was off the charts. Bob always loved a good
cold Beck’s beer and enjoyed watching Sherlock Holmes movies.
Predeceased by his parents, Theodore J. Marx and Gladys (Findeisen) Marx and his wife of 61
years, Theresa C. Marx. He is survived by his children; Robert (Betsy) of Mays Landing,
Theodore (Sue) of Mays Landing, Melinda (David) Battistelli of Mays Landing, Shawn
(Stephanie) of Petersburg, Theresa Marx of Millington, MD, Josephine Fox (Erik) of The
Netherlands and Cynthia (John) Stephano of Seaville. Also surviving are his grandchildren;

Philip, Julie, David, and Andrea as well as fourteen great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Gloria
Demi and brother-in-law Joseph Salbego and many cousins, nephews and a niece.
Bob was an incredibly kind and gentle person with a glowing smile! He will be forever loved
and deeply missed by his children, grandchildren and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing
him. The family was so blessed and grateful for his live-in aids, especially Peter.
Visitation will be held at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point,
NJ on Friday, January 27th from 10:00 to 10:45 AM, followed by a Catholic Mass at 11 AM.
