Marie E. Burke, 92, of Atlantic City, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 02, 2009, while residing at Our Lady’s Residence in Pleasantville, NJ.
Marie was born July 24, 1916 in Philadelphia, PA and was a long time resident of Atlantic City, NJ. She was the daughter of Clarence G. and Elizabeth M. (Devlin) Supplee. Marie is survived by two children, Dennis (Carroll) Burke of Somers Point, NJ and Patricia (Edward F.) Ciccarone of Davenport, IA; one sister, Catharine Jankowski of Philadelphia, PA; her four grandchildren, Dennis Burke of Aberdeen, NC., Jennifer Burke of Milltown, NJ., Edward Ciccarone and Kathleen Ciccarone, both of Davenport, IA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Edward Burke; her son, Michael Burke; sister, Elizabeth Leedom; and brothers, Clarence Supplee and Joseph Supplee.
While raising her children, Marie was involved in church and school. She was President of Our Lady Star of the Sea PTA and the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved crafts, and many friends and relatives were recipients of her framed Christmas trees, created with antique jewelry pieces. In later years, Marie was an assistant for a local dentist. When she retired, she increased her hours volunteering as church secretary at Our Lady Star of the Sea, and was fondly remembered by many pastors she assisted over the years.
Friends are invited to a visitation at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road in Northfield, NJ on Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 9 until 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Linwood at 11am. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing.
