Obituary for Lloyd Harper Jones

Jones, Lloyd H. Sr. - 85 of Absecon, passed away on January 7, 2021 after a 4 year battle with cancer. He was born at home in Hi-Nella, New Jersey on December 22, 1935. Lloyd graduated from Haddon Heights High School in 1954 and Temple University in 1958. He then enlisted in the Army Reserves. In August of 1959, he went to work for the Prudential Insurance Company in the Gateway Building in Somers Point. There he met the love of his life, Ellen Cornew. After spending 15 years in the home office, he transferred to the field to be an agent. He retired after 35 years with the company. He also went to work part time as a custodian in the Brigantine Schools for 10 years. During these years, he married Ellen, started a family with 3 children and settled in Absecon. Lloyd was also a 62 year member of the Laurel Lakes Masonic Lodge raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason, April 4, 1963. From there, he became a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Consistory in Collingswood. Lloyd could often be heard whistling or singing and was a member of the Stockton Chorale for several years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, feeding and watching the birds, working in his yard, watching the weather, tinkering in the game of golf with his buddy Ken, Friday morning coffee with his fellow retirees, watching the Eagles and devotedly following all the activities of his three kids and five grandchildren. He was a numbers man that could calculate almost anything in his head and continued working on his sharpness by always having a crossword puzzle or sudoku nearby to solve. Those who knew Lloyd, loved him! He had an infectious smile that would light up a room when he walked in. Whether you were one of the girls in the kitchen of Brigantine Schools or one of “Miss Ellie’s” close friends, you could expect an enthusiastic, “Hey Darling, how are you?” Even during his own illness, he provided tremendous support, positivity, and encouragement to those close friends who were dealing with similar issues. He was always lifting everyone else up. He was known for some of his favorite sayings, such as, “I’m full as a tick!” or “I’m fair to middlin and I can’t complain!” He never did complain. Right up until the very end, he continued his positive thoughts and his tremendous strength that had him out raking the acorns a few weeks ago. Lloyd is pre-deceased by his brother Kenneth Jones, his mother Eleanor (nee Haines) and father, Lloyd Jones. He is survived by his wife Ellen of 58 years, his daughters Mischelle Ahmed, Jill Tracy and husband Toby Tracy, grandkids Anderson and Riley Tracy, and his son Lloyd H. Jones Jr. and wife Dorian and grandkids Delci, Colton, and Kacey Jones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Services will be held at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home 1650 New Road Northfield, NJ 08225 on Saturday January 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM with a visitation from 10-11 AM. Interment will be held at Zion Cemetery Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Arrangements by and condolences at www.adams-perfect.com.
