Obituary for Joseph William Newsome

Joseph William Newsome
Deacon Joseph William Newsome was born on August 10, 1930 to the late Mr. James and Mrs. Florence Newsome in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On June 22, 2016, around 9 a.m. the Lord dispatched an angel to receive Deacon Newsome, and he went to his heavenly home.
Joseph’s family moved to Murfreesboro, North Carolina when he was a young boy and he received his formative education there. Joseph moved back to the east coast in his early twenties and settled in Atlantic City, N.J. “Joe” as he was fondly known by everyone worked for many years at AtlantiCare (formerly Atlantic City Hospital) as an orderly. It was here that he met the love of his life, Mary Hill. This union lasted for 45 years until God called her home.
He worked at the Claridge Casino in the transportation department. He was very diligent and kept the cars immaculate. He believed his work represented him and he took great pride in his job. He was a hard worker and often worked two jobs to support his family which also included Lennox China. Joe returned to AtlantiCare Mainland division in Pomona and worked in environmental services for many years until his retirement.
Joe was admired for his joy of life. It was always very important for him to always look his best. This was demonstrated in how he appeared when he arrived, while he worked and when he departed.

He was stylish, sharp and cool. He was so cool that he was nicknamed "Cool Breeze”. He had a great sense of humor and always "had jokes" to the delight of all who knew him. He served in the community as a volunteer at the Arthur Leinweber Center and Mainland Manor nursing home for many years.
Joe accepted Jesus Christ later in his life. It was important for him to give God as much commitment as he gave to his life before church. So when the Lord saved him he had that same intensity and zeal for God He was so grateful that God had given him another chance. He was true to his commitment and was baptized and joined Greater Mt. Carmel COGIC under the pastorate of the late Elder Elijah Reid, Sr where he joyfully served on the Usher Board, Men's and Deacon’s ministry.
Three sons preceded him in death: William (Billie) Newsome, Charles M. Hill, and Joseph Newsome Jr. Two sisters: Leeanna Bruce and Victoria Flythe.
Deacon Newsome leaves to cherish his memory: daughters; Esther Cleveland (Pine Hill), Elizabeth Roundtree (Egg Harbor Township) Gwendolyn Hill (Pleasantville), Florence Johns (Mays Landing), Maria Hill, Lori Lemon, Vicky Sawyer (Atlantic City), Loretta Fleetwood (Georgia), Delores Newsome, Patricia Newsome, Elaine Myrick and Jackie Manly (North Carolina), his sons; Elder James Hill Jr. (Jennifer) (Georgia), Joshua Hill (Chan Chi) of Egg Harbor Township and Curtis Newsome (North Carolina).
