Obituary for Jean Y. Schweikert (Young)

Jean Y.  Schweikert (Young)
Schweikert, Jean Young, 98, passed away on the 8th day of November 2016 in her apartment at The Shores at Wesley Manor in Ocean City, NJ. She was born on January 23, 1918 in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom to Alexander and Margaret (Freebairn) Young.

Jean grew up in Glassboro, NJ. She graduated from Glassboro High School where she was the lead in the school play “The Royal Family.” A few years after high school she began work as the head buyer/seller of the book department at Snellenburg’s flagship store in Center City, Philadelphia. Her favorite author was Robert Frost and his poems, “The Mending Wall” and “The Road Not Taken.”

Jean married John F. Schweikert on September 19, 1936 in Glassboro, NJ. They were happily married for 49 years. She enjoyed playing golf, going to the theatre, sport fishing and reading. She strongly valued education and helped family members with the cost of obtaining a college degree. All her life, she cherished her Scottish heritage.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Margaret Young, her husband, John Schweikert and her sister, Isobel Fowle.

Jean is survived by her sons John (Denette) Schweikert, Jr. of Melbourne, FL and Don Schweikert of Cape May, NJ: her grandchildren John Schweikert III of Atlanta, GA and Alexander Schweikert of Seattle, WA; her great-grandchildren Adilyn and Jake, and Vivian and Blythe; and her nieces Donna Mohr and Ellen Oliver.

The family will be greeting friends and relatives between 10 to 11 AM on November 19, 2016 at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Rd, Northfield, NJ, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Laurel Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to United Methodist Communities Foundation, 3311 State Road 33, Neptune, NJ 07753.
