Obituary for Grayce Anne McConville

Grayce Anne McConville
McConville, Grayce Anne (nee Sullivan), - 69, of Northfield passed away suddenly at home, Thursday, July 28, 2016. Born in Northfield to Jack (dec) and Grace (nee Canale) Sullivan. She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, William McConville, children William Jr. (Kim), Robert (Patty), and B.J. (Dan), as well as her grandchildren Annie, Patrick, Jack, Madeline, Ryan, Kyle, and Carlene; her brother John (Nancy) Sullivan as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A life long resident of Northfield, Grayce was involved in many community organizations and foundations including Northfield PTA, Northfield Mother’s League, and Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts. Through the years, nothing brought her greater satisfaction than making something for friends and family such as gift baskets, cookies, cakes, pies, wreathes, birdhouses, flowers and love of a quick wit. She turned these talents into a successful craft business with her mother at Ribbons and Lace, which took her up and down the Jersey coast selling re-creations of Victorian Era decor to many. When she decided to retire from the business, her focus became solely her family. Some of her passions included cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, cross-stitch, and painting. She couldn’t wait to try out a new recipe and elicit some immediate feedback. Some were losers, but most were winners. One of her most satisfying culinary achievements was perfecting her uncle’s cheesecake recipe, and we all know how that came out. Once retired, Grayce and her husband traveled along the East Coast, spending much time getting lost, and sometimes loved the many lost roads they were taken down. Without Grayce, Bill may have never found his way home from circling the Hotel Washington. As their family began to expand to a third generation, so did her duties. She selflessly took on new roles and continued to amaze everyone with her knowledge and talents, becoming nursemaid, chef, and doctor to her beloved grandchildren. As much as she was the rock of our entire family, both immediate and extended, she never saw herself as doing anything other than what she wanted to do.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, August 2nd, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd, at 10 a.m. at Saint Gianna Beretta Molla Parish (formerly St. Bernadette’s) 1421 New Road, Northfield. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Grayce’s name.
