Eileen and I were officers in our Senior Class at St. John the Baptist Girls High School in Manayunk. The parish Sodality of Mary was having its Communion Breakfast one Sunday. Traditionally, the Senior girls provided some musical entertainment for the occasion. That little responsibility fell to me, the person least prepared and talented. Eileen took it on with her usual generosity, cheerfulness and enthusiasm and with great relief to me. She was up on the latest. A little group of our loyal and lively classmates joined her. On Monday morning after the Breakfast, I, unaware of what the entertainment had been, reported to the school office upon request with Eileen. It seemed that some of the serious Sodality ladies expressed dismay over the appropriateness of the entertainment song, "There Ain't Nothin' Like a Dame." Eileen, guileless as ever, had chosen it with the purest of intentions. I will miss the many laughs we've had over the occasion. Perhaps Mary has laughed, too.
