Albert G.  Matthews
Matthews, Albert G. 91 of Somers Point passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 20, 2014.
Born in Magnolia, NJ , Albert was an area resident most of his life.
Albert enlisted in the US Army on January 9, 1941. He was shipped out of Brooklyn Army base for the Hawaiian Islands in February of 1941 aboard the USS Republic. He had defended the North Shore of Oahu. Albert was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He served in the United States Army Field Artillary during World War II during which he was awarded many medals including the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of which he served as Treasurer.
Albert worked for thirty five years at Glasko Pontiac Buick in Mays Landing and retired as Sales Mgr. He was a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge in Mays Landing, Odd Fellows, Somers Point VFW, Somers Point American Legion and Somers Point AMVETS Post 911.
He is predeceased by his wife, Margaret. He is survived by his nephew, Robert Shrehlow of FL, his niece, Mildred Hurd of SC, his great nephew, Charles Hurd, his God-daughter, Peggy and many loving friends. The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to both Heartland Hospice and Comfort Keepers for the loving care of Albert.
A Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 10am until 11am at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home 1650 New Road, Northfield, NJ 08225. A service will follow at 11am. Burial will take place at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor.
Donations may be made in Albert's memory to the Charity of One's Choice.
