Obituary for Margaret Malia (Maguire)

Malia, Margaret M. “Maggie” (nee Maguire), 87, of Northfield, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 8, 2015.

Maggie was a lifelong area resident. She was raised in Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School, Class of 1945.

Maggie was a long time member of the Church of St. Bernadette in Northfield, where she worked as a secretary for Msgr. Beausang. Maggie also worked as secretary at St. Peter School in Pleasantville, Albert Ash, Esq. in Ocean City, and at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon.

Maggie is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Mark A. Malia, Jr., and her parents, John and Catherine Maquire. She is survived by her five children: Mark A. III “Duke(Joanne) of Sandy Hook, CT; Margaret “Candy” Peterson (Michael) of Mays Landing; John (Cheryle) of Winchester, MA; Catherine “Kate” Fox (Chester), of Gilford, NH; and Patrick (Cathi) of Absecon. In addition, Maggie is survived by her 17 grandchildren; and her brother, John J. Maguire of Escondido, CA.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 pm, on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Rd, in Northfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, on Monday, January 12, 2015, at St. Gianna Beretta Molla Parish, 1421 New Rd, in Northfield. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff of the Reflections Unit at Brandall Estates and Samaritan Hospice for the care and compassion they showed toward Maggie.
