Condolence: Dearest Granny,

I have so many happy memories of you. As a little kid, I loved to read and you bought me many books and instilled my love of reading. I remember standing in the kitchen with you, one foot resting on the opposite thigh, either peeling skins from kacang or cutting vegetables while reciting nursery rhymes. You also sewed several outfits that I wore all the time because it was pretty and comfortable. I especially enjoyed playing scrabble with you.

The last time I saw you was on your birthday this year when we cut the cake and also when we went out for the Chinese buffet. I was always amazed at how sharp your memory was remembering so many details and specifics. I was so pleasantly surprised when you mastered sending emails when you were in your 80's and we could communicate. Your strength and fortitude was boundless and I will miss you. I am grateful that God gave me such an amazing grandmother. Rest in Peace!

Condolence: EULOGY FOR MURIEL BOUDVILLE

MY MOTHER MURIEL WAS BORN DURING WORLD WAR 1 AND LIVED THROUGH THE HARDSHIP AND HORRORS OF WOLD WAR 2. SHE MARRIED MICHAEL AT AGE 16 AND HAD 9 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN WITH HIM IN A SPAN OF 16 YEARS.

SHE IMMIGRATED TO THE UNITED STATES 21 YEARS AGO AND AFTER 5 YEARS, SHE INSISTED ON BECOMING A U.S. CITIZEN. SHE DILIGENTLY STUDIED THE CITIZENSHIP QUESTIONS AND ACED THE FINAL VERBAL EXAM AT AGE 82.

ALTHOUGH MY MOTHER MURIEL DID NOT HAVE A COMPLETE HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION OR WORKED IN ANY OFFICE, SHE WORKED EXTREMELY HARD AS A WIFE AND MOTHER AND DEVOTED HER LIFE TO THE AMBITIONS OF EACH OF HER 9 CHILDREN WHO ENDED UP WITH SUCCESSFUL CAREERS THEMSELVES.

WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL, I REMEMBER MY MOTHER MURIEL SPREADING BUTTER ON 2 SLICES OF PLAIN BREAD AND MAKING A CUP OF COFFEE WITH MILK AND SUGAR EACH MORNING. THEY WERE FOR A VERY SPECIAL PERSON. THIS SPECIAL PERSON WAS THE NEIGHBORHOOD TRASH COLLECTOR WHO OFTENTIMES LOOKED GRUBBY AND SMELT FUNNY AND HAD LOST ONE EYE. HE USED TO JUST SIT ON THE GROUND THEN AND THERE AND EAT HIS SNACK WHOLEHEARTEDLY. ONE DAY I OVERHEARD THE MOTHER OF THE FAMILY NEXT DOOR SAYING TO MURIEL, “WHY DO YOU LET THIS DIRTY PERSON DRINK FROM THE SAME CUP AS YOUR CHILDREN?”. TO WHICH MURIEL REPLIED, “BECAUSE THIS PERSON COULD BE JESUS”.

THOUGH VERY POOR MATERIALISTICALLY, SHE MADE TIME FOR EACH OF HER CHILDREN. SHE USED TO PAINT HER ONE AND ONLY BABY CRIB A DIFFERENT COLOR TO MAKE IT LOOK NEW AGAIN, TO WELCOME EACH NEW BABY INTO THIS WORLD.

MY MOTHER MURIEL’S SIIMPLE COOKING WAS THE ENVY OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD WOMEN. SHE COULD WHIP UP A MEAN DRIED COD FISH PICKLE AND FIRERY CHILLY SAUCE TO COMPLEMENT OUR REGULAR MEALS. ON CHRISTMAS DAY EACH YEAR, SHE COOKED ENTIRE FULL MEALS FOR ALL THE NON CHRISTIAN FRIENDS OF HER 9 CHILDREN. THIS MEANT HER FEEDING ABOUT 100 GUESTS FOR THE DAY. THIS WAS NO COMMON FEAT!

EVEN THOUGH MY MOTHER HAD MEDICAL ISSUES AS SHE GREW OLDER, SHE SEEMED TO ACCEPT THEM PASSIVELY AS COMING FROM THE HANDS OF A LOVING GOD.
AS A DAUGHTER I COULD NEVER DEPRIVE HER OF THE JOY SHE GOT FROM DOING SMALL HOUSEHOLD CHORES. IT MADE HER USEFUL. SHE WAS ROUTINELY WASHING HER CEREAL BOWL AND CUP ONE SUNNY TUESDAY MORNING, WHEN SHE SUSTAINED THAT DREADFUL FALL.
MOTHER:
YOU WERE A JEWEL FAR BEYOND PRICE
EVER RADIANT EVEN AS TIME FLEW
FACETS OF YOU RADIATED THE LIGHT
PRECIOUS AND BEAUTIFUL SHINING BRIGHT

A GIFT TO HAVE AND A GIFT TO HOLD
A GIFT TO TREASURE AS DAYS UNFOLD
I GIVE THANKS TO GOD THAT YOU WERE ALWAYS MINE
DEAREST MOTHER, SWEET SWEET MOTHER OF MINE.

WE LOVE YOU MOM -- GO IN PEACE UNTO THE EMBRACE OF OUR LOVING JESUS.

Condolence: We grieve our loss, beloved Mother, but rejoice that you are now safe in the Hands of the Lord. You have been the rock of the family, unshakable and unfazed by life's trials and tribulations always caring more for family than for self and we salute and honour you. Your journey through this world may have ended but a far better place now beckons you in the House of the Lord. We will miss you and your kind counselling but accept that it's all part of God's plan. Rest in peace dearest Mother.

Your loving son Colin, daughter-in-law Grace, grandchildren Karen, Douglas and Alissa.

Condolence: A tribute to the best grandma one could ever have

My grandma Muriel Enid Boudville was truly a wonderful and remarkable lady. She was the beaming light to so many people. Even at the age of 98 years old, she could remember things I myself could not recall. She had accomplished things no one could imagine and age was never a barrier. At 75 years old, she took the bold step of going to America and 7 years later, she passed the exams to become a US Citizen. She certainly had passion for life and her never say die attitude still lives on in my memory. I still find it amazing that at 85 years old, she had sent an e-mail to me and she did the whole thing herself.

As a child, I practically grew up with used to meet her a few times in a week and when holidays arrived, rest assured I would be spending time with her at her PJ house. Of course, I was treated with all my favourite food like sausages dipped in egg and bread crumbs and then friend to perfection and other types of food. Her roast pork dish was simply out of this world. I still vividly remember the morning walks to the market with her where she used to buy fresh soya bean and a visit to the grocery shop called Fat Man shop was also a routine .In the afternoon we would catch a movie at the Ruby or Paramount Cinema whenever a new show appeared. In the evenings, we played scrabble for hours and I owe it to her for the improvement in my English language. Granny used to also come for my school sports day and if I did badly, she always had a word of encouragement. In some ways, I had the luxury of having 2 mothers which is a privilege to any child. I really enjoyed those moments spending with my grandparents and it made my childhood all the more meaningful.

When she left for US in 1994, it left a big void in my heart and I was filled with mixed emotions as one part was happy that she would be spending time with her youngest daughter Brenda and the other part sad because I would be missing someone who I used to see on a weekly basis. Granny taught me many things in life especially good manners, respect and sound moral values. She was a very straight forward person and will tell you off if it was not right .In a way, she moulded me to what I have become today. She was my motivator, confidante and her greatest quality was to encourage me to make the best of everything .Guess the motto face the bull by the horns kind of influenced me.

Her passing leaves a massive hole in my heart but I will always draw strength from the things she taught me. A tough lady with a very soft and caring heart. It has been an honour to have shared my life with this great lady and she will certainly be missed by all but her memory will always remain with us. I take comfort that she is in a better place now which is free from pain as she sails into the wind with all the angels and saints. Knowing my grandma, she must be already looking down and smiling at us. May her soul rest in peace and may the perpetual light shine on her.

Legacy of Love of a wonderful grandma

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.

Adios grandma till we meet again …………………………

Your loving grandson
Jerry

Condolence: HI MUM
only 2 weeks ago i say you on SKYPE.& the first thing you said is how are you LEN. ThIS is typical of you to show your care and concern about your children & grand children before anything else. When we were in difficulty you always said i will pray for you. Your children came first in your life. You had a contiguous smile and even when you were in pain & distress you smiled. My children & grand children always looked forward to seeing & speaking to you in SKYPE. We will always miss you. RIP mum, i am sure that heaven would welcome you. God bless you.
