Obituary for James Wray

James  Wray
James Victor Wray, 92, born 10-26-1922, passed on 6-27-15.

Born in Atlantic City to James Victor & Evelyn Wray, a lifetime resident of Northfield, recently residing in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

After graduating from Pleasantville High School in 1942, he served his country in World War II in the Army Air Corps serving in the European Theater in England, France, Italy and Greece.

After graduating from Ohio University, he joined his father’s Real Estate and Insurance Firm, J. Victor Wray & Sons in Pleasantville. He and his brother David Earl Wray took pride in helping many families find their homes in Atlantic County.

He was a past President of the Atlantic City & County Board of Realtors, and a member and leader in many civic organizations, including serving as past president of the NJ Junior Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, and American Legion Post 295. He was a founding member of the Mainland Recreation Association (MRA) in Linwood. A longtime member of Atlantic City Country Club. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Somers Point. He was a licensed private pilot.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Romanelle Hart Wray; his sister Virginia Wray of Lighthouse Point, Florida and David Wray of Annapolis, Maryland, He is survived by three sons, Rev. Thomas Wray (Janet Nelson Wray) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeffrey Wray (Beth Mayer Wray) of Northfield, NJ, and John Wray (Theresa Hughes Wray) and seven grandchildren, Kathleen, James, Tyler, Hannah, Justin, Victoria and Erica Wray, and four nieces and nephews.

Jim always was an optimistic, outgoing man who loved his family & life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jim treasured his many years of friendships at the Atlantic City Country Club, and his many years aboard his beloved fishing boat, Jimbo, at the “L” dock at Harbor Cove Marina in Somers Point.

Visitation will be at Adams Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road in Northfield on Thursday, July 2nd from 6-8pm. On Friday, July 3rd a Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 11 E. Dawes Avenue in Somers Point from 10-11am with a Service beginning at 11am at the Church. Interment will be held at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor.
