Obituary for Elaine E Ruppert

Elaine E Ruppert
Elaine Estella (Scudder) Ruppert, passed away on March 22, 2015 at home in Absecon, after a brief illness.
Elaine was born on June 19, 1927 at her home in Atlantic City and was the only child of Clifford and Mary Scudder. Growing up in a small community of Venice Park, she developed her skills in music, handiwork and came to know that she wanted to be a nurse.
Elaine came to place her faith in Jesus Christ as a child when she heard about Jesus through the ministry of Miss Lydia Granfield and the Child Evangelism club hosted in her home. After graduation from Atlantic City High School, Elaine went to Hahnmann School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. It was during this time that Elaine became acquainted with a young medical student, Ralph Edward Ruppert, who was attending Hahnemann Medical School. Both were members of the Christian Medical Society at the medical school. Ralph was a leader in the organization and Elaine played the piano for their meetings.
Ralph and Elaine were married on June 25, 1949 at First Baptist Church in Atlantic City. Dr. Ruppert began his medical practice in Atlantic City but was shortly called into active duty during the Korean War. After returning from his service in the Army as a medical doctor, he opened his own practice in Family Medicine in Absecon, and Elaine was his assisting nurse. Elaine and Ralph have three children, Carol (Jim) Hale from Burnt Hills, New York, R. Scott (Patty) Ruppert from Harpswell, Maine and Paul (Brenda) Ruppert from Absecon; and ten grandchildren.
She loved having her family around her, especially sharing holidays and mealtimes.
Elaine was always active in the church. Over the years, she and Ralph attended First Baptist Church of Atlantic City and most recently Linwood Community Church. She contributed her talents to the music ministry as a church pianist, accompanist for the choir and soloists, organist, and also as the choir director.
Elaine’s other interests were ceramics, sewing and a variety of crafts from knitting to counted-cross stitch. She enjoyed giving her handiwork away as gifts to her family and friends.
Elaine Ruppert was one of the early, faithful volunteers and eventually became the first school nurse at The Pilgrim Academy serving from 1971-2010. She enjoyed sharing her expertise in medicine, and used her organization skills to create and develop the school’s health clinic that served the entire school body.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 5-7pm followed by a service celebrating her life at 7pm at Linwood Community Church, 1838 Shore Road in Linwood. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Pilgrim Academy or Samaritan’s Purse.
