Obituary for Charles L. Doughty

Charles L.  Doughty
Charles "Jack" L. Doughty, 83 passed away peacefully on March 24, 2015. Jack was born on August 11, 1931, to the late Samuel and Mary Doughty and grew up in Pleasantville.

His commendable military career in the United States Army includes 25 years of service and tours in Indochina, Korea, and Vietnam. During his enlisted at Fort Meade, Maryland he served as a cryptanalyst with the Department of Defense. Jack received the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Gallantry Cross. In addition, many other citations, awards, badges, and accommodations. After being honorably discharged in 1975, he served as a non-commissioned officer for the National Security Agency.

In addition to his illustrious military career, Jack was also academically minded and earned his B.S. degree in history CIRCULUS SCHOLARUM from Coppin State College in Baltimore, Maryland. He developed this interest as a life-long historian of African American history. Later he went on to become a math teacher in the Atlantic City School District.

Jack bowled prodigiously and was a fan of football. Go redskins! He enjoyed traveling throughout the country with his late nephew Bobby and late best friend Herman Lang. Jack was also a member Salem United Methodist in Pleasantville.

He is predeceased by his brothers Walter, Mitchell, Sammy, and sisters Francis, Helena, May, and Margaret, and leaves his memory to cherished by his caretakers Darryl Doughty Sr. and his wife Tammie, a host of nieces and nephews, and special military comrade, Jim Minnucci.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 11:00 am at Salem United Methodist Church, 815 S. Main Street, Pleasantville, NJ. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
