Obituary for Elizabeth J. Taylor (Endicott)

Elizabeth J. Taylor (Endicott)
Taylor, Elizabeth Josephine (nee Endicott) (“Jo”), 93, passed away on November 12, 2014 after a brief illness. Jo was born in Longport, NJ on April 24, 1921, to Somers and Ellora (nee Conover) Endicott. When she was a year old, the family moved to Pleasantville where Somers was one of the town’s first police officers. She lived in the same house all her life until she moved to Galloway when she was in her 80s.

She was a member of the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service established during World War II to keep watch for enemy planes entering American airspace. She also worked as a secretary and in a laboratory producing poultry vaccine. She retired from Wheaton’s Plasti-Cote as a member of the Glass Bottle Blowers’ Union.

“Miss Jo” could often be seen on her front porch sitting with neighborhood children of all ages enjoying a lollipop or other treat.
Jo married later in life to G. Robert Taylor. As “Elizabeth Taylor” she always shared a laugh with anyone who asked her how Richard Burton was or about her diamonds.

Jo is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, her sisters and their husbands, Malinda (Dale) Gallaher and Ellora (Fred) Meyer, stepson, Dick and step grandson, Richie Taylor. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Patricia (Ed) Wenzel, and stepson, Robert (Carol) Taylor and their families.
She is also survived by her four nieces, Susan (Dennis) Duncan and Gretchen (Tim – deceased) of California and locally Linda (Stan) Baker, Ellora (Don) Latham, their children and grandchildren. She was an important part of their lives and delighted in family gatherings.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield, NJ. followed by a service at 11 :00 am. Burial of cremains will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville, NJ.
