Obituary for Frank J. Mahoney Jr.

Frank J.  Mahoney Jr.
Mahoney, Frank J. Jr. 88 of Pleasantville, loving, wonderful, caring husband, father, pop-pop, brother, uncle, and friend, went to heaven peacefully January 30th at home. Frank was born to Elizabeth Guerin Mahoney and Frank Mahoney, Sr. on June 7th, 1927 in Pennsville, NJ also known as Mahoneyville, God's country, where he was affectionately known as Francis, Fran, and Franny. Frank graduated from Salem High School in 1945, 7th in his class. He attended Lincoln Prep in Philadelphia with honors and graduated from the University of Delaware in 1956 with a degree in Accounting. As a boy in the 1930's, he cut grass for 25 cents, he worked the farms picking apples for 5 cents a basket. As a young adult, Frank worked for Anchor Hocking Glass, Dupont, and H.J. Heinz. After graduating college, Frank started his career with the IRS as a fraud agent in 1956, retiring in 1988. He loved his 33 1/2 years working for the government, proud of the fact he never lost a case. Frank delivered the Press of Atlantic City for 23 years. He worked for the Atlantic City Race Track in the stable department for 31 years, he loved watching the horses. His love of taxes led Frank to start a business out of his home for 22 years ( He knew the tax code inside out). Frank loved his country and had an honorable discharge from the Army in 1945. He was a very religious man who was devoted to Saint Peter's Parish in Pleasantville for over 50 years, serving as an usher for 35 years. He most recently, was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Absecon. Frank was a 4th degree Knight with the Ave Maria Council serving as their financial secretary. Frank was a member of the Pleasantville Board of Education from 1973-1995, serving as president and vice-president. Frank was a member of the Irish American Club; he loved his Irish heritage, which led him to be a diehard Notre Dame fan for 80 years. Phillip Crosson who was on the Notre Dame football roster in 1931-1932 said Frank Mahoney was the greatest rooter that Notre Dame ever had that did not go there. He also was an avid Phillies, Eagles, and Delaware Blue Hens fan.
Over the years, Frank also enjoyed coaching his sons in little league. Frank was a caretaker of others for many years, helping all he could. Frank was the greatest storyteller; his Irish wit captivated an audience. Everyone loved his stories; his smile would light up a room. One of his greatest gifts was that he always made you feel special. He will be deeply missed. Frank married the love of his life, Angelina Sebastiani on October 17, 1959. he loved his family unconditionally, he was our hero. Frank is predeceased by his parents, Frank J. and Elizabeth (nee Guerin) Mahoney, brother James Mahoney, sisters; Marie Wyshinski and Elizabeth Dolbow.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Angelina who took very good care of him. His loving children; Joanna and George Helfrich (nee Mahoney), Maureen Mahoney, Frank and Tricia Mahoney (nee McHugh), and Vincent and Maria Mahoney (nee Riccio). His adoring grandsons; Vincent, Shane, Frank, Ryan, and Rocco Mahoney, his lucky charms. his sister, Dot Bunting (Charles), brother Ed Mahoney (Kathy), his sisters in law; Eileen Mahoney, Catherine Paradise, brother and sister in law, Julius and Jackie Sebastiani, and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 5th from 6pm until 9pm and again on Saturday, Feb. 6th from 9am until 10am at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home 1650 New Rd. Northfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Frank on Saturday, Feb. 6th at 11am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Absecon. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.
