Obituary for William Thomas Smith Jr.

William T. Smith, Jr. was born February 7, 1931 to William, Sr. and Odell (Levy) Smith in Fayetteville, NC. On April 23, 2021 he passed peacefully at home. The family, which included his only sister Mildred, migrated to the north, living in Richmond, VA and Baltimore, MD before settling in Atlantic City, NJ where he graduated from Atlantic City High School. Willie, Jr. as he was affectionately known as, was a Sergeant in the US Army having served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1957 where he soon met and married Sarah White. From this union, they had four children: Ronald Allen, Phillip Thomas, Sr., Pamela Theresa and Wendy.
A mechanic in the Army, Smitty, loved to work on cars and motorcycles and had an immaculate tool room. An Atlantic County Sherriff’s Officer and Teamster, he held many positions through the years at The Claridge Hotel, UPS, Coast News, Rogers Warehouse, Showboat, Bally’s, Lackland and he was the owner of S & S Vending Co.
Friends and family will always remember ‘Breeze’ with a cold beer in his hand and a plate of barbeque in the other. He was a lover of camping, parks, skiing, traveling, swimming, seafood and old spaghetti westerns. He watched anything with Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson in it. He was a collector of guns and loved his ice cream, bags of pistachio nuts and fresh cherries, especially if he was watching a good movie. His laugh was infectious and loved a good comedy along with a regular sub. Always a pet owner, he had many dogs and cats, most of them named either Petey and Tobey.
In addition to his parents, Willie, Jr. is predeceased by his sister, Mildred Kieder, his in-laws, John and Agnes White, his beloved dog Tobey and his grandson, Franklin Smith.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: Children; Ronald, Phillip, Sr., Pamela (Mack Barlow) and Wendy, wife Sarah, one niece Angelia Flipping, many grandchildren, a great grandson and a host of many friends, relatives, grand and great-grand pets. A funeral service will be held on Monday May 3, 2021 at 11:00 AM a visitation will be held prior to the service from 10- 11 AM at Adams-Perfect Funeral Homes, Inc. 1650 New Road Northfield, NJ 08225 Interment will be held at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery Estell, Manor, NJ.
