Obituary for William R Dabbs Jr.

Dabbs Jr, William “Bill” R. – 90 – of Mays Landing, NJ (formerly of Waterford, MI) Passed away peacefully on June 20, 2020 at The Samaritan Hospice Center in Voorhees, NJ. Bill lived in MI for more than 60 years, until he moved to NJ in 2015 to be closer to family. Bill served in the U.S. Army as a Medic during the Korean War and loved patriotic music. He had many jobs throughout his life: working for Pontiac Motor, Pontiac State Hospital and Washington Mutual Insurance Co. Eventually, his career took him to a position with the Federal Government as a Defense Contract Administrator where he retired in 1988. Following retirement, he worked at Sears, and finally did volunteering for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, which helped fulfill his desire to help others. He enjoyed planning, building things, teaching his daughters how to care for their cars and garden, also photography and painting. Bill’s true passion was singing, of which he was a member of the Pontiac-Waterford Big Chief Barbershop Chorus for 45 years. As a “barbershopper” he sang baritone in several quartets. He truly loved the outings at Christmas time and was able to continue singing while in NJ, performing at his place of residence, Woodview Estates. His parents, Blanche & William R. Dabbs Sr., his loving wife, Betty (McMiller) Dabbs, and several siblings precede him in death. Bill is survived by: his daughters Diane (Ed) Nowak and Karen (Tom) Pericles; granddaughters Kayla & Allison Nowak; brother R. Joseph (Jane) Dabbs; sister-in-law, Doris “Jane” Turner, and many loving nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. A private memorial service will be held at a later date with interment of ashes back in his beloved state of MI.
