Obituary for Thomas W Gallagher

Thomas William Gallagher, 79 of Northfield, passed away on October 12 after a long health battle. Born in Ventnor in 1943, Tom grew up on Boston Avenue in Atlantic City and graduated from Holy Spirit High School (class of 1961). He then enlisted in the Navy for the next 4 years as a Radarman and was honorably discharged in 1964. Tom spent most of his working career (39 years) at Lenox China as a customer service manager from 1967 to 2006.

Sports were a big part of Tom’s life. A lifetime Notre Dame fan, he never missed a game. He loved watching (and complaining about) the Phillies plus played softball throughout his adult years. He also gave back to the community and served as President of the Northfield All Sports Association from 1977 through 1985.

Tom’s retirement years were spent mostly couch surfing, watching sports, complaining about the government, and hitting the casino. He loved his family and made sure they felt loved on birthdays and other special events. Tom is now resting in peace along with his wife Kathleen (2013), brother Richard (1995), parents Thomas Flaherty (1944) and Anne McDevitt (1979), and stepfather Richard “Butch” Gallagher (1993).

He is survived by his sister Anne (Nancy) Swan of Linwood, NJ; three children Chris (Judy) of Linwood, NJ, Scott (Larissa) of Clayton, CA, and Kellie of Highlands Ranch, CO, plus six grandchildren: Kyle (24), Sarah (23), Kailyn (22), Emily (21), Cole (17) and Will (16).

A celebration of life for Tom will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023.  Anyone that has interest in attending may contact Chris Gallagher at (609) 432-5334 for specific details.
In lieu of flowers or gifts to the family, donations will be accepted in Tom’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project for all who wish to donate.
