Obituary for Robert Grier Irwin Sr.

Robert G. Irwin, Sr.

Irwin, Sr., Robert G. (Poppy), 78 of Egg Harbor Township passed away peacefully on November 8, 2022.

He was born on July 19, 1944 in Wilmington, Delaware to Clyde M. and Helen Irwin. His childhood was spent in Pleasantville. He enlisted in the Navy in 1962 and served until 1965. After that he lived with Jane and Larry Palmisano of Northfield and was able to attend refrigeration school. He then began his 30+ year career at Sears as a service technician. During his retirement he worked shuttling cars for Boardwalk Honda.

Predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Gloria Irwin (née Curcio), and his siblings; Bud, Margie, Jim, John, George and Eddie.

Survived by his son, Robert G. Irwin, Jr., daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Irwin, son, Michael L. Irwin, grandchildren; Rebecca Loos (Christian), Emilie Irwin and Robert G. Irwin, III, great grandson, Emmett Loos, his siblings; Pinky, Tiny, Chollie, Rick, Suzy, Linda, Dave and Ginny, many special nieces and nephews, past coworkers and friends.

He loved traveling to many places in the U.S. and Europe with his wife. He enjoyed cooking and made a mean pot of soup. He was very proud and supportive of his family, stepping up as the patriarch after his wife’s passing. While keeping a positive attitude towards life, he continued to support his family despite his declining health. Although the events in his life were objectively tragic around this time, his family recognized his will towards optimism. He was known around town by the name Poppy, enjoyed his Schmidt’s beer and was often spotted at the Egg Harbor Township Wawa drinking his coffee and reading the newspaper.

He was loved very deeply by his family who will miss him dearly every day.

A visitation will be held for 10-11 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Adams-Perfect Funeral Homes, Inc. 1650 New Road Northfield, NJ 08225. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery Mays Landing, NJ.
