Obituary for Matthew Russel Monteith

Matthew Russel Monteith entered into this world on April 17, 1991 in Galloway, NJ and departed it far too soon on November 22, 2023 from St. Charles, IL. He is survived by the love of his life, Christina Riccio, and their son, Anthony Russel Monteith, who will be three years old on December 4th.

Matt will be greatly missed by his loving mother, Elizabeth McCarthy Monteith; his father, Kevin Russel Monteith and his wife Beth Levy; paternal grandmother, Mary Jane Platt; and his sister, Jessica Monteith Finkelstein (Evan). Also mourning his loss are numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Matt is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Ann and Edward McCarthy, and his paternal grandfather, William Russel Monteith.

Matt was a 2009 graduate of Oakcrest High School. His extracurricular activities were soccer and skateboarding with his buddies.

Matt had a quick wit, and his sense of humor and warm smile could brighten any day. He befriended almost everyone he met. He had a big heart and a gentle soul, traits that far too few in this world have today.

Matt loved his little boy dearly and was looking forward to sharing his passion for Philadelphia professional sports with him. Although he had transplanted himself to Illinois, Matt remained a diehard Eagles fan.

Matt overcame challenges and adversity in his young adult life and came through those times with strength and commitment. A quote by Carl Bard that applied to him was, "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending." Matt's brand new ending was building a life with Cristina, strengthening his relationship with his family and gifting the future with his son, Anthony. He will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
