Obituary for Mary Jane Callahan- Barrow

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Jane Callahan Barrow (74) announce her sudden passing after a short battle with cancer on Sunday January 15th, 2023 in Pensacola, FL Sacred Heart Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Mary Jane was born in Philadelphia on June 15th, 1948 and is preceded in death by her parents Patrick James and Beatrice Julia Callahan of Atlantic City, as well as her brother Patrick Callahan and beloved nephew Sean Callahan.
Mary Jane will be lovingly remembered by her husband John Barrow from Crestview FL, fur babies Maddie & Rocky, three stepsons Shannon (Linda), Steve, and Nathan (Vivian) Barrow and one stepdaughter Grace Montes, from Florida. Eight grandchildren Shaun, Cassie, Mia, Bella, Chelsea, Olivia, Amirah, and Jacob as well as one great grandchild Brooklyn. She will also be dearly missed by her sister Patricia Koelling (Paul), nieces Kimberly Green (Gary) and Katie McCormack (Mike), her nephew Paul Michael Koelling (Alaine) and great nieces Lexi and Grace as well as six great nephews Patrick, Nicholas, Carson, Finn, Aidan and Declan of New Jersey.
Mary Jane grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey where she attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Elementary School and graduated from Holy Spirit High School. She continued her education at Goldey-Beacom Junior College, Monmouth University and Stockton University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Accounting.
Upon graduating she started her career as an accountant for Harrison Beverage and Lenox China. She then continued as a Financial Controller for Bally’s Hotel & Casino as well as TRUMP Taj Mahal Casino & Hotel. Callahan’s Bar was a prominent fixture in Mary Jane’s life, as she helped manage this family business. She then opened her own practice as a CPA, retiring in 2011. Retirement brought Mary Jane to her home in beautiful Crestview, FL with her husband and dogs. It is here where Mary Jane discovered her love of SEC football (Go ‘Bama, Roll Tide!) and gift of cooking Southern and Cajun cuisine.
Her retirement consisted of many adventures including numerous cruises and land trips. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and snow skiing. Mary Jane was a strong and independent woman known for her love of animals (supporting local shelters and charities), generosity and spoiling all the grandkids, nieces, and nephews. She loved to spend summers with her lifelong friends on the NJ beach and boardwalk.
Mary Jane will be deeply missed by her friends and family. She is now pain free, at peace and reunited with her fur babies Bell, Yancy and of course her first puppy love Max.
