Obituary for Katharine Ruth Carmen
June 28, 1943 - July 9, 2023
Katharine Carmen of Egg Harbor Township, died surrounded by family on July 9, 2023.
Katharine is predeceased by her parents, William and Katharine Jackson and her sister, Myra Rae Wexler, as well as her beloved husband of 48 years, Jack Carmen.
Ruth’s favorite jobs were being an employee shuttle bus driver for Caesars Atlantic City, where she was the friend and confidant of many, and her position as a receiving and distribution coordinator at the Community Foodbank of Southern NJ, where she also served her community by working as a volunteer. She especially loved making baskets for the annual fund-raising auction.
Ruth and Jack were happy travelers who, over the years, visited many states from Maine to Alaska. The couple’s best trips were when they hosted their entire family, dubbed “Carmen’s Colossal Crew” at their home-away-from-home, Old Key West Resort and Disney Vacation Club.
Ruth is survived by her younger sisters, Billie Andrews (sons Ron and Tom), sister Margaret “Peggy” Burkley (husband Frank and daughter Cory), and Myra’s children (John Wexler, Jr. and Elizabeth Klein). She is also survived by her children Karen Little (Ed), Kenneth Carmen (Allison), Katharine Narvaez (Jaime) and Christine Harriott (Mark).
Ruth was blessed to have 12 grandchildren: Nikole Mandrik (Narvaez), Jaklynn Brown (Narvaez), Alex Foster, Gabriella Carmen, Katharine Little, Dillon Carmen, Elizabeth Little, Courtney Carmen, Jackson and William Little, Paige and Cole Harriott, and great-grandchild Ezra Foster.
The Carmen children have a message for Heaven: “JAAAAAAACK, get ready, Mom’s comin’ with a list!”.
