Obituary for Juana Thompson (Lleras)

Juana L. Thompson, also known as Jennie, was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on August 29, 1954. She spent most of her life in NY/NJ with 9 years serving in the military in Europe and Georgia.

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, she joined her parents, Francisco and Juana Lleras Astacio, her aunt and uncle who raised her, Carmen and Angel Lleras, and her husband, Edward, whose love was like no other.

She was blessed with three children, Angela (Will) Ailes, Chandra Anaya and Edward (Cathy) Thompson, and grandchildren, Isaiah, Nessa, Angie, Joey and Maya.

She will be watching over all of her brothers and sisters and waiting for them to join her- William (Linda) Lleras, Johnny (Glicevel) Lleras, Louie (Monin) Lleras, Julie (Charlie) Lleras, Neida (Alfred) Lleras, Cucho Lleras, Olga Lleras, Gladys Lleras, James (Dee) Astacio, Linda (Bruce) Newman and Ralph (Remy) Davila.

Jennie blessed many people during her 50 years as a nurse providing love, mentorship, advocacy, compassion, and most importantly, delicious food and treats for patients and coworkers alike! She retired in the fall of 2020, however, her graciousness didn’t stop there, she continued to bless the community and churches where she was very active. She loved the Lord and had peace that only a child of God could have. The strongest woman we know, there will never be another Mama Juana.
