John (Jack) Somers, of Northfield, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 95 on Monday. Born to Enoch and Zelda (Conover) Somers in 1925, and pre-deceased by wife Catherine (nee Thomas), and brothers Thomas, James, and William, he leaves behind his sister, Betty Ridenour, children Catherine, Mary, John (Jacqueline), Joseph and Jennifer (Leon), fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jack was a Purple Heart recipient and a proud WW II Veteran having served in the US Navy as a Sea-Bee (90th Division), and, served in Iwo Jima. A tireless, hardworking man, he was a member of Carpenters Local 623 and worked on many hotel/casinos in Atlantic City during the height of construction. For over 40 years, he also enjoyed selling ice cream on the beaches of Atlantic City. Jack had an immense love for his entire family and considered them his greatest treasure. He
was adored by many including numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and dear friends and will
be greatly missed by all those he knew and loved.
