James (Jake) Doherty, age 63 of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, lost his battle to adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) on October 9th, 2022. He was born in Hollis Queens, NY and raised in Pearl River, NY. He attended Pearl River public schools where he was a champion race walker and an integral part of the Pearl River High School track team. He attended Marist College and received a degree in Criminal Justice. He moved to Atlantic City, NJ, in 1984 and worked in surveillance for Caesar's Casino and then Tropicana Casino for over 30 years. Shortly after moving down to the shore, he met the love of his life, Patty, and they were married in 1989. Jake was an avid runner and had run in 9 marathons including Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. He is a lifelong fan of the NY Mets and NY Giants. Jake is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia (Bruner), three children, Robert Santo, Tracy Santo, and Marycecilia (CeCe) Doherty, four grandchildren, Aubrey, Isabel, and Joshua Torres and Drew Jackson, his three brothers, John (Kathy), Thomas (Katie), Daniel (Leotine) and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary (Delaney) and his beloved son Michael Santo. Jake will be remembered for his generosity, humor, compassion, and strength. He would give you the shirt off his back and his last dollar. He had a smile that would change your world and a heart of pure gold. He was a warrior who overcame countless trials during his lifetime and was a hero to many. His family was his world, pride, and joy and he will be missed for eternity. With all our love.
A mass will be held at St. Katharine Drexel in Egg Harbor Township on Friday, October 14th, 2022 at 11AM with visitation prior at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to ACCcure.org to benefit research for Adrenal Cancer.
