The world has lost one it's best young men. My hearts breaks for the Nawrocki family. I spent a lot of time with Jake on the Lacrosse field. I must have taken a thousand shots on him over the years during warm-ups in practice. He never complained about the bad shots, the shots that hit him in the foot, or the knee, or the shots that completely missed the cage. I remember the time he had bruises everywhere during a busy part of our season. We were scheduled to play one the tougher teams. At some point in the game, their big shooter wound up for a heavy time-and-room shot. He sent it whistling right into Jake's rib cage. He doubled over in visible pain but he stopped the shot, scooped the ball, and sent a clean pass to the midfield despite the pain. He simply refused to let the team down. On the field he was courageous, and tough. In the classroom, he was diligent, driven, curious, insightful. His classmates often looked to him to "go first" when a challenge or a question was presented to the class. I can only hope my own son grows up to be a young man of equivalent character. --B'tags.
