A Time to be Born
Gwendolyn B. Raiford, the second of four children, was born on August 14, 1941 to the late Doris Brown (nee: Markun) and Alonzo Brown from the Bronx, New York.

A Time to Love
Gwendolyn (Gwen) met and married Robert (Bob) Raiford, Jr on April 14, 1962, fifty-six beautiful years of marriage. From this union were born two children – Lachon and John. She was a lovingly wife and mother.

A Time to Work
Gwen worked at Dunn and Brad Street, East Orange, New Jersey, as a customer service representative, then worked as a teacher’s aide for the East Orange school systems and finally retired from her working career as a customer service representative from Howard Press in Piscataway, New Jersey.

A Time to Sow
Gwen Mom/Grandma as she was affectionately called, grew up and was educated in New York City, In the late fifties she met Bob and they dated until they married and moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1962, in March 1963 they moved to East Orange, New Jersey and then moved to Colonia, New Jersey in 1975 with their current move to Absecon, New Jersey in 2018. Gwen was spunky, vibrant and full of life with a loving caring/giving heart. She loved her husband, children dearly and held a special place in heart for her grandchildren. She also loved to shop till she dropped. Her gifts and talents were decorating and making floral arrangements. Gwen and Bob loved to travel and get together often with their family and friends. Gwen loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church prior to her illness. Her favorite quotes were – give me my flowers while I’m alive, that’s the story and I won’t complain.

A Time to Die
On Monday, July 30, 2018, Gwendolyn B. Raiford went home to be with the Lord. She leaves behind to cherish her fond memories, her lovingly and devoted husband, Robert (Bob) Raiford, children: Lachon N.Langham (Bryant) and John Raiford (Vivian); Two sisters, Regina Carr (Renee), Denise Coleman and was preceded in death by another sister, Beverly Smalls. Grandchildren: Sylis Raiford, Bryant Langham Jr., Rodney Satterfield, and several nieces & nephews.


A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 10am til 11am at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home 1650 New Road, Northfield, NJ 08225. A funeral service will follow at 11am. Burial will be held in Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona.
