Obituary for Gary James McGhee

The Silly Putty Lounge lost their fearless leader on March 13, 2022. Gary J. “Silly Putty” McGhee died after a courageous, hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Pleasantville, NJ, Gary resided in Egg Harbor Township for much of his life. He retired from a long, prosperous career in the car business.
Gary will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor, the love he had for his family, and his friends he so dearly enjoyed. If you were spending time with Gary, you’d likely hear a funny story involving his much-loved friends and family or some little-known fact about an old car you had your eye on. An avid reader, a fan of classic movies, and an absolute fondness for listening to the oldies – Gary was a lover of the arts. He also enjoyed tinkering with any electronics he could get his hands on. Someone may need to go teach his wife how to work their tv…
Gary’s family would like to thank the loving and kind Oncology teams at the University of Penn in both NJ and PA as well as Dr. Justin in the ICU and Dr. Schuemaker (ER) at Shore Memorial for their kindness and guidance to the family during this difficult time.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife Jeanne, two sons Gary McGhee Jr. of Somers Point, NJ and Sean McGhee (Heather) of Garner, NC, sister Linda Allen (Steven) of Pleasantville, NJ, brother John (Jackie) McGhee (Theresa) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, two step-daughters Krystal Kurtz (Richard) of Pittsgrove, NJ and Megan Jones (Christopher) of Cumming, GA, three grandsons, Preston, Elliot, and Wyatt, and his faithful fur-buddy Atticus.
A private service is being held on Friday, March 18th. The family would love friends of Gary to raise a glass and make a toast in his honor celebrating his life in place of attending services.
