Gary was born June 11, 1943 in Atlantic City, NJ, and attended Pleasantville High School class of 1961, where he played football. Gary was a well respected carpenter with Local 623 and helped to build the well known Atlantic City boardwalk, convention center, twelve casinos, and many other monumental structures throughout the city. When he didn’t have a hammer in his hand, you could find him playing baseball or watching high school football games. Gary loved to walk in nature, hike, sitting by the ocean and loved to attend retreats with his church. He was a practical joker and made prankster, he enjoyed sharing a laugh with others. Gary was predeceased by his twin brother Eric and brother Jan; his parents Harry and Doris Astin. He is survived by his loving children, Nancy Lynn Astin, Jennifer Astin Mattrick, Gary Astin Jr., Amy Jane Astin; his grandchildren, Jessica (Hunter), Alexandria, PJ, Vincent, Eli, Amelia, Graham, Domanique, Danee’Jah, Christian and four great grandchildren; his loving sister-in-law Judy Astin; nieces, Michele and Renee; nephews, Brandon, Taylor, Jon (Darlene) and Jarad (Christel). Time spent with his family was the source of his greatest joy. Gary left a legacy of love and faith in Jesus. “Governor” as he was known by all, will always be remembered for his generosity and unconditional love. He will be greatly missed but will live forever in our hearts.
