Obituary for Francis T. Thorn

Thorn, Francis T., 94 of Bargaintown, passed peacefully on October 24, 2018 at Royal Suites after a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 4, 1924 in Bargaintown to Thomas H. and Barbara B. Thorn. Following his graduation from Atlantic City Trade School in 1941, he served in the Army Air Corp. While in the service, he married his wife, June (nee Hardy) in 1943. After reaching the rank of Sergeant, he was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon returning to his home area, he lived at his home 69 years, during which time he raised a family, became employed at various local automobile agencies as Service Manager, and later became employed by the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District in a supervisory position over the maintenance staff.

He was an avid and experienced pilot, having loved airplanes from his childhood. As well, he was an accomplished harmonica musician, and at 12 years of age appeared on WPG Radio Station in Atlantic City. For many years he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at both Pleasantville Mainland Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Northfield respectively.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Thomas and Barbara (Boehly) Thorn; sisters Esther Selleck, Ella Ludlow, Barbara Worrell, and Ruth Nickles; his son, Thomas F. Thorn; granddaughter Melissa Thorn McKeen; and grandson Andrew D. Fitch. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, June; two children, Janet Thorn Fitch and her husband, Rev. Paul of Somers Point, and Paul Thorn of Egg Harbor City; and daughter-in-law Annabell Thorn of Egg Harbor Township. Additionally, he is survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 30th at 11:00am at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. A visitation will be held from 10:00am until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor.
