Obituary for Doris E. Johnson (Kindell)

Doris E. Johnson (Kindell)
Doris Elizabeth Johnson of Pleasantville passed away peacefully in her home on September 20, 2018. She was 96 years old and preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Morris Johnson. She was born on May 23, 1922 to Ralph and Alice Kindell in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she grew up. She met the love of her life, Clayton, in church and they married in 1941 - an enduring marriage of 74 years. A loving wife, Doris was also a dedicated and caring mother to her three daughters, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
During World War II, Doris worked at Eastern Aircraft in Trenton as an inspector for military aircraft, including torpedo bombers such as the Grumman TBF Avenger. She subsequently was a homemaker for many years while actively serving in local community organizations, schools, and the Methodist church. She took charge in many fundraising projects and served as president of the Atlantic City Exchangettes. Doris also assisted as a bookkeeper for many years at Brooks & Idler Printers in Atlantic City, which was co-owned by her husband. In later years, she worked in the national office of the Miss America Organization in Atlantic City. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband on the pier of Ocean City and the ballrooms of Atlantic City, where the couple frequently made quite the impression with their dancing talents. She was also an enthusiastic fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Doris is survived by her three daughters, Janice Kaukeano of Atlantic City, Jill Muth and her husband Charles of Sugar Land, Texas, and Joanne Johnson of Galloway, with whom she formed an especially close bond in her final years. She has five grandchildren: Kyle Kaukeano of Atlantic City, Kim Hoyt of Peoria, Arizona, Douglas Muth of Sugar Land, Texas, Lauren Muth of Sugar Land, Texas, and Gregory Muth of Lubbock, Texas. Further, she has four great grandchildren: Kayla Kaukeano, Kylie Kaukeano, Kahealani Olson, and Kanaloa Chung.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 25th, 2018, from 10am until 11am at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, located at 1650 New Road, Northfield, NJ. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11am. Interment will follow at Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona, NJ.
