Obituary for Donald Dale Smith

Donald Dale Smith
Donald Dale Smith ¨Donny ¨ lost his courageous battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, at the age of 39, on Sunday, July 29th 2018, with loved ones by his side at his home in Margate City, NJ.

Donny was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Don and Lynn (Mizia) Smith, on September 9, 1978. Donny grew up in Andalusia, PA, he attended St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School, Egan-Conwell Catholic High School and graduated from LaSalle University. Donny´s attention to detail, strive for perfection and his love to create and build led him to pursue a career as a self-employed contractor bringing joy, in so many ways, to all those his path had crossed.

Donny´s kindness, extreme passion and selflessness were the perfect combination to equal the best son, brother, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, friend and so much more. The fact that so many consider Donny a ¨brother¨ just touches on the extremely special person he truly was.

Donny´s love for the surf made for great times and great friends. Anyone who knew Donny knows the way he chose to embrace the joys of life. Whether it was creating the greatest Halloween costume, making the most delicious foods, naming every cloud in the sky with factual textbook information, being the ultimate bonsai master or just being Donny - we all know how very special he was in so many ways. We are so lucky and blessed for just having known him in any way. His impact in our lives will never be forgotten and he will live on in each and every one of us.

Donny will forever be remembered by his true love Brandi, his loving parents, Don and Lynn and his adoring sisters, Karen and Diane. Donny will be missed by all those who truly loved him - Chief and LuLu, his aunts and uncles, his niece and nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and many others including his fury friends that loved him so very much. Donny also held a special place in the hearts of those who have gone before him, especially Babcia and Phil.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 12th, 2018 at the Fire House No. 2, 1 W. New Jersey Avenue, Somers Point, NJ 08244 from 12 noon to 3:00 pm. The family would like all to come Celebrate the Life of Donny. Please come casual and bright in the spirit of Joy and Happiness that is Donny.

Memorial Donations, in Remembrance of Donny, can be made to AmpSurf. AmpSurf is a non-profit organization established to Promote, Inspire, Educate and Rehabilitate (PIER) all people with disabilities (including amputees) and their families through adaptive surfing and other outdoor activities. Surfing is something that Donny passionately loved and to donate, in hopes of continuing the great organization to the Jersey Shore, is something Donny would have been very proud to be associated with.
