Condolences

Condolence From: Stephen L Capelli
Condolence: Maureen and David Somers

My first memory of Maureen Walsh was from her home on Guard Place, in Pleasantville, NJ. I was very young, about four years old, so it was the late 1940’s. Maureen was having a “serious debate” with her brother Jimmy and it got very wild. The Capelli and Walsh families stayed very close, even after the Capelli family moved to the other side of town and the Walsh family moved to Atlantic City. We always loved to visit the Vermont Ave. apartment. It was on the beach block, so very close to the boardwalk and beach. “Big Helen” (later Bebop) was always a great hostess. Maureen, Jimmy, Katherine, Eileen, “Little HeIen” and Theresa were always very kind to us. I stayed with the Walsh’s several times for a beach and big city vacation. I enjoyed meeting the Mora family and had a great time hanging out with Bennie Mora. Many times, the girls came to visit us “in the country”. Our families were great friends.
I met Dave when he and Maureen began dating and was very proud to be invited to and attend their wedding. Dave had a great way of making everyone feel important, even young kids. He would talk to you about the things that were important to you. As we grew up, he followed our school and athletic accomplishments. Over the years, as we all went in many different directions, it was always nice to reconnect with the extended “Walsh” family. I remember attending a national conference held in Atlantic City while I was living and working in Missouri. I took an afternoon off from the conference to attend a party at Maureen and Dave’s home with my parents. The last time I saw Maureen and Dave, was about ten years ago, when we met on the Cape May -Lewes Ferry. They were traveling back to NJ and my late wife and I were traveling to see my family in NJ. We spent the entire voyage talking in the lounge.
Maureen and Dave were great people who leave behind a legacy of kindness, family and love. I am sure that they are happy to be together for eternity.
