Obituary for Catherine Helen Hammell

Catherine H. Hammell, -91, of Linwood, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Shore Medical Center on Wednesday October 12th. Born August 24, 1931, in Belcoville and growing up in South Carolina, Texas, a farm in Mays Landing, finally settling in Linwood.
After graduating from Pleasantville High School, Catherine began working at the Atlantic Cadillac Company in Atlantic City. After leaving the Cadillac company she worked for the Linwood school district, where she remained until retirement, serving lunch and a smile to the children.
She married the love of her life on October 26, 1952, and they raised two wonderful daughters at their home in Linwood. Catherine was a strong and loving woman; she showed kindness and compassion to everyone. She was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church where she volunteered her time to help with functions, donated food items for their food bank, and gathered Christmas gifts for children in need.
Catherine enjoyed time traveling with family. Her hobbies included sowing, knitting, and sharing stories of her family history. She was a wonderful cook and cherished meals around the table with the people she loved.
Catherine is predeceased by her husband, Harry Hammell; her parents, Nathaniel and Lavinia Henry; and two sisters Irene (Robert) England and Sarah Dessicino
She is survived by her daughters Joanne (Jake) Patterson, and Beverly (Bruce) Long; three grandchildren, Jennifer Patterson, Dawn Nieves, and Andrew (Audbrey) Patterson; five great grandchildren, Jessica Johnston, Christopher (Katie) Johnston, RJ Nieves, Isabella Nieves, and Elijah Patterson; three siblings, Georgetta (Robert) Richards, John (Edna) Henry, William (Patricia) Henry; brother in-law, Salvadore Dessicino, sister in-law Alma Groves. many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to help with the expenses. There will be a celebration of life following the service; time and location to be announced. Catherine is loved by many and will be missed by all who have been blessed to know her. “In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill.”
