Obituary for Alexander DeFeo

Alexander DeFeo, 83, of Galloway Township, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 18, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Lynch; his two sons, Ernie Joe DeFeo (Karie) and Carmen DeFeo; one daughter, Diane Stollenwerk (Matt); grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Ashley (Danny), Nicole, Alex, Constance (Juan), Jessica, Johnny, Justin, Jason and Adele; as well as eight great grandchildren.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Al was proud to serve his country by enlisting and serving in the United States Army: Private First Class. There he learned the meaning of discipline, honor and a strong work ethic; that lead him throughout his life. After the Army, he played Semi Pro Baseball. He soon met his beautiful wife Phyllis, who he was proud to raise three beautiful children with. Through the years, Al owned and ran many successful businesses. His first venture was purchasing his mother’s business in the Bronx. He then moved to Hackensack, then to Cologne New Jersey, opening Al’s Custard and Al’s Luncheonette, which he eventually sold to his children. Al’s proudest accomplishment was seeing his own children develop their strong work ethic.

Al was passionate about sports his entire life. His most cherished moments were watching his children and grandchildren competing in sports. Each one brought him so much joy. He also enjoyed dining out with his family, celebrating holidays together and hearing all the goals and dreams his family shared with him.

Al will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends, who will remember the way he stood by them during good times and bad. Al always had time to help others. He had a kind, compassionate heart. He loved people and had an incredible zest for life.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at Living Faith Chapel, 5200 S. White Horse Pike, Egg Harbor City, New Jersey on June 1, 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Living Faith Chapel.
