Obituary for George W. Fleming

George W.  Fleming
George W. Fleming, known throughout South Jersey for his charismatic personality and charm, passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2018 at the age of 69 years.

A native of Egg Harbor Township, George graduated with the class of 1967 from Oakcrest High School and went on to play college basketball at Southampton College of Long Island University until 1971. He later received his associates degree from Atlantic Cape Community College and bachelor’s degree from Stockton College. A luminary of the local hospitality industry, George enjoyed a 45-year career as a Maître d' and Restaurant Manager of some of the finest establishments in Atlantic City and the surrounding area including: Il Verdi and Fin of the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, Simon AC of the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, Ono Pan Asian Bistro and The Oaks (formerly “Charlie’s” of the Golden Nugget) of the Hilton Casino Hotel, and Zaberer’s Restaurant.

George enjoyed a life-long interest in horse training and the equestrian sport of dressage of which he was revered as a local expert in classic techniques. He was passionate about his muscle cars and motorcycles, most recently owning a 2006 GTO and a 2007 Harley Dyna Wide Glide.

He is survived by his loving wife of five years, Mia Campo; his children, Major G. Eric Fleming, USMC and wife Maria Fleming, Lauren Hann and husband Keith Hann, and 1st Lt Steven Fleming, USMC; his grandchildren, Meredith, Madeleine, and Genevieve Fleming; his sisters, Marie and husband Walt MacBride, Nancy and husband Bob Wick, Susan and husband Peter Berg; his stepchildren, T.J., Jessie, and Todd Burke; his nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-puppy “Penny,” and countless friends.

A visitation and celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, March 18th from 3 pm until 6 pm at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield and a final visitation will be held on Monday, March 19th from 9 am until 11 am at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 6075 West Jersey Avenue, Egg Harbor Township. A service will follow at 11 am.
